Architectural Photography
St. Mary's Cathedral Kingston Ontario
"Where Jesus Stands"
As one of the assignments in Mr. Esford's class we had the opportunity to go downtown and see the wonders of building and architecture that Kingston has to offer. My favorite picture that I took was in St. Mary's Cathedral I like the fact that it is religious, and that Holy Cross is a Catholic so there is a connection. This image is a photo on a “Religious” theme that contains three techniques of architecture photography: angle, texture, and religion. This picture was taken in St. Mary’s Cathedral in downtown Kingston. I took the picture on an angle because the flash lights up the whole alter which gives it an interesting view you see the whole altar, plus you can see behind the altar as well.
Also in this picture the texture of the floor and the flowers in front of the altar gives the altar enhanced colour. The way that I took the photo the floor lights up with the flash and gives off a nice shine, which increases colours into the photo. You can also see the reflection of the altar on the floor which not only adds visual interest but it adds a certain flavour to the picture. I basically choose this photo cause the fact we are a catholic school and the cathedral, the connection is there. A side note the sheet over the altar is white and looks really nice with the yellow and other colours around it.
Also one other aspect of the picture I that I liked, is all the colours in the picture. The bright yellow and the onyx marble legs on the altar really stand out. I also like the statue of mary in the background. Looks nice, its behind the altar, like the last supper mary was at the table. So it looks interesting that the way the picture was taken looks like shes at the altar. The trip was good, due to rain some pictures might look a little wet. The contrast and brightness levels might not be the same as if it was a sunny day. I had a great time not only did I get out of class, but I got to see somethings in Kingston that I did know existed.
Publicity Head Shot Photography
Photo Taking By Evan Angers
This photo is a head shot, that we did for publicity unit. The goal for this project was to create a shadow around the subjects eye but still keeping the sine in the eye. This projected consisted of taking several photos till the photographer was confindate that this picture was good enough. The next step was taking the photo and importing it into the mac computer. The software used for this was Photoshop. When imported we took off the colour to get that fade affect, and focused more on the eyes. This project was pretty easy if you know how to focus your camera and edit the picture
